The Route 66 Centennial Celebration ART Quilt Project is an exhibit comprising 66 unique and individual 24” x 24” fiber art pieces. Each depicts a different attraction or location along Route 66.
All states are represented, including locations at the beginning, end, middle, “home of”, and many others. Viewers are immediately connected to Route 66, eliciting memories and/or cementing plans to visit. All works were completed in 2024 and are new. The exhibit is available for booking at art galleries, museums, community centers, etc., across Route 66. Several dates in 2025 and 2026 are secured, with plenty of dates remaining available.
The Art Bits STL, a sub-group of Bits 'n' Pieces Quilt Guild of Ballwin, Missouri, conceived of the Route 66 Centennial Celebration ART Quilt Project. Group members have art quilting in common, and meet to share and support each other in their artistic endeavors. The group's work has been exhibited at local and national quilt shows, galleries, and the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY. Most recently, a piece was selected as “Viewers’ Choice” at the Houston Quilt Festival. Most artists are from the St Louis metro area, including Illinois. The group has about 25 members.
Project Design Intent:
- Celebrate iconic Route 66 locations and attractions, from Chicago to LA, through the medium of fiber art.
- Encourage Centennial Exhibits of the project locally, regionally and nationally, with priority going to Route 66 venues, museums, galleries, visitor centers, etc..
- Create connections along Route 66 through artist gallery talks, meet-the-artist events, and kid-friendly projects.
