An independent production team, led by former Cornell University visiting lecturer Kyle F. Reinson, is producing a series of one-hour podcast episodes celebrating the U.S. Route 66 Centennial.
is a well established media and art installation concept developed by the father and son duo of Randy and Spencer VanDerStarren.
Their concept showcases global travel destinations, but with an interesting "signature" twist: An ever present red director's chair that appears in the darndest place from tokyo, to Los Angeles, to Paris, to China... in cities, country sides and jungles. The chair is not the center of attention but ever-present. In fact finding it becomes a very engaging and fun game.
The first episode will launch on November 11, 2026 the official centennial day for Route 66. Episodes and bonus content will be released monthly and as available into 2027.
This project seeks to tell the untold stories, examine the nostalgia of the road, and to look at the current realities that are influencing and shaping the future of U.S. Route 66 and its myriad stakeholders in American life.
The under-told stories of this road could fill many books, and even one podcast of 8 to 12 episodes cannot do it justice. But this current podcast is dedicated to revisiting, rediscovering, and preserving U.S. Route 66 for the next generation in celebration of its centennial.
Nov. 11 2026 launches this new retrospective podcast dedicated to revisiting, rediscovering, and preserving the essence of Route 66 for a next generation.
